Our priority is effective stewardship, monitoring and environmental management practices to help educate our communities and protect the health of our lake ecosystems.

About

A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise.

Good stewardship and advocacy revolves around effective communication strategies and collective action. Over the next five years, we will continue to expand our membership by canvassing or creating individual lake associations, and strengthening our communication network with other watershed associations.

We will also continue to foster our relationships with the provincial government, relevant government departments and stakeholders to ensure that lake environmental management is at the forefront of effective water and environmental policy at both a provincial and municipal level.

HARVEY LAKE

Sheryl Bartlett, PHD Chairperson

Sheryl Bartlett earned a doctorate in Statistics at  the University of Toronto and spent her career working on health and  environment issues, retiring from Health Canada in 2012.

She has  always had a special feeling about lakes in New Brunswick, taking  holidays at Harvey Lake every summer since she was a baby. Fulfilling a  lifelong dream of living permanently beside the lake in 2012, she wanted to contribute expertise gained throughout her career to further  stewardship initiatives that would help protect Harvey Lake's ecosystem.  To that end, she served as the Chair of the Harvey Lake  Association, Inc, until 2019 and currently serves as the Chair of the New Brunswick Alliance of Lake  Associations.

LAKE GEORGE

Hal Mersereau, Vice Chairperson & IPP Coordinator

Hal is currently the Vice Chair of the New Brunswick Alliance of Lake Associations and coordinator of the invasive Plant Patrol Program for the NBALA. He is also a member of the Lake George Habitat Preservation Inc., and past president and one of the founding directors of that same lake association. Also he is the coordinator of the LGHPI Invasive Plant Patrol Program.

Hal is a retired teacher having taught in the schools of Charlotte County and currently lives in St. George. He grew up in the railway town of McAdam and has spent all summers of his life at the family property on the shores of Lake George. Five generations of the Burke / Mersereau / Cook family have or are enjoying all that life on a New Brunswick lake has to offer.

His advocacy for lakes and lake associations started at the same time as his involvement in the Lake George Association. He truly believes that we must “preserve, protect, maintain and enhance the environmental, aesthetic, and recreational value of our lakes for present and future generations.” He has discovered that all folks who live on any lake, either seasonally or permanently, have one thing in common: they have a passion for their lake!
